Much anticipated Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s goes official

April 09, 2018 Android New Launch News Xiaomi

The Mi Mix 2s is finally here after a spate of rumors and leaks.  It comes with a look that is very similar to Mi Mix 2 albeit with a more powerful chipset and an impressive dual-camera setup. The Mix 2s is about a millimeter thinner both horizontally and vertically, hence an improved the screen-to-body ratio. The difference, however, is hardly noticeable.

Mi Mix 2s has a 5.99-inch 18:9 FullHD+ IPS panel for a screen with a 2.5D curved glass on top. A 5MP f/2.0 selfie cam in the corner below the screen. On the back of the Mi Mix 2s is where you can find the largest major upgrade over the Mix 2 - a pair of OIS-enabled 12MP cameras, located in the top left corner.

One of which is a normal snapper with large 1.4ɥm pixels and bright f/1.8 aperture (Sony's IMX363), while the other - a telephoto camera with f/2.4 lens and 1ɥm pixels (Samsung S5K3M3 module). The in-built Dual Pixel technology promises quick and accurate autofocus. Mi Mix 2s also takes multiple shots and stacks them together to reduce noise with the multi-frame NR feature.

Mi Mix 2s is armed with Snapdragon 845 chipset which has a tangible performance improvements over the Snapdragon 835, without a larger battery consumption. The software is also updated; Android 8.0 with MIUI 9.5 on top. Google Assistant has also been replaced with Xiaomi’s own virtual assistant - XiaoAI, but this is likely applicable to Chinese users.

Mi Mix 2s comes with $16 7.5W Qi wireless charging support - a world's first on a ceramic device.

The rest of the specs includes a 3,400 mAh battery, Quick Charge 3 support and many connectivity options - dual SIM support, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and a wide assortment of international bands. There is also a USB Type-C port of USB 2.0 specs. IP ingress protection rating is still unavailable.

The new Mi Mix 2s comes in a total of three memory configurations: 6GB RAM plus 64GB storage, 6GB plus 128GB and 8GB plus 256GB. Sadly, there is no SD card slot available on any of them. There is no standard 3.5mm audio jack either. Colours are black and white.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s will start at CNY3,299 ($530). The 6GB + 128GB version will cost CNY3,599 ($575), whereas the top 8GB + 256GB model will be at CNY3,999 ($640). A free wireless charger will be included in every package. Sales commences in April online.
