New updates to Samsung Galaxy S7 Active

May 26, 2016 Android News Samsung

Recent leaks show that Samsung is poised to release the ruggedized version of its Galaxy S7. As you would expect, the specs is very similar to that of the original handset. And according to a report by Venturebeat, the phone will not be any different from the S7 and S7 edge, at least in terms of specs.

One of the things that differentiate this model from last year’s is the thickness. While the previous model is 8.6-millimeter in thickness, the Galaxy S7 Active is 9.9-millimeter in thickness. Moreover, the weight has also increased from 170 gram to 180 gram, leading to a 15-gram weight increase.

The increase in thickness and weight may be due to the increased battery capacity in the Samsung S7 Active. While the previous version is only powered by a 3,500 math battery, the new model comes with a bigger 4,000 mAh battery. Although previous rumors touted at a bigger screen, what we are likely to see in the Galaxy S7 is the same 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display in the S7.

Although it was stated at the beginning of this article that the spec on the Galaxy S7 Active matches that of its predecessor, there are still significant changes in the S7 Active. Where a Galaxy S6 Active features a 3GB RAM, the S7 Active is a 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip set and will run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.

While both the S6 and S6 Active come with a 16MP camera, the S7 Active brought it down to 12MP, which follow the S7 and S7 edge. The smartphone sports a 5MP selfie camera as well as a dual pixel sensor for better performance in a low light situation. Just like the Samsung S7 and S7 edge, the S7 Active will provide IP68 certification for protection against dust and water. It is definitely expected to provide an even better waterproofing and dustproofing capacity with the rubberized casing. Consequently, it will be more suitable for heavy duty outside activities unlike the S7 and S7 edge, both of which are more suited to indoor usage.

Conclusion

Although the release date and price for the Galaxy S7 Active is not yet clear, the Etoren blog believes that it should be in line with the previously released S7 models. Look out for more updates on this model.
